What septic work costs in Suffolk County
There is no fixed septic price in this guide, because none of the 20 companies publishes a fixed septic price on its own website. Every dollar figure on this page is a range or a discount found on a company's own site, labeled as such. None of them is a fixed price for every home, and none of them is a quote for your home: final prices depend on the system type, its size and condition, access, permits, and how much work the job takes, as the companies themselves state.

Published figures (labeled, never fixed prices)
- Long Island Cesspool Co. (2025 prices on its own site): residential pumping, a range of $385 to $675; emergency pumping, a range of $485 to $775; conventional replacement, a range of $8,500 to $16,000; I/A installation, a range of $18,000 to $24,000; pre-purchase septic inspection, a range of $350 to $550; riser, a range of $275 to $450. Ranges, not fixed prices.
- Drastic Drainage: a conventional system typically $10,000 to $20,000; an I/A OWTS generally $15,000 to $30,000, including engineering and permits; an average I/A of about $25,000; Suffolk permit fees of about $330 to $2,000. Ranges, not fixed prices.
- JET Cesspool Service, with an explicit disclaimer that these are general estimates, not fixed quotes: residential installation on Long Island $10,000 to $25,000+; basic cesspool / gravity $5,000 to $12,000; nitrogen / advanced $15,000 to $30,000+; a 1,000-gallon tank $3,000 to $5,000; excavation and permits $1,500 to $4,000. Ranges, not fixed prices.
- Rapid Response Cesspool: a general I/A OWTS installation range of $10,000 to $30,000+. A range, not a fixed price, and not a pumping price.
- Four Seasons Cesspool: no fixed price is published; it says flat-rate pricing with the rate confirmed by phone before the truck is sent. That is a pricing method, not a published figure.
- Clear River Environmental: no fixed price is published, only discounts: $25 off line cleaning, $100 off cesspool installation and $25 off a full pumping. Discounts, not prices.
- Suffolk Septic Services: no fixed price is published, only discounts on its own site. Discounts, not prices.
- Every other company in this guide publishes no price figure at all. Several offer a free estimate, a free consultation or a free visit instead.
Program figures are not company prices
Several companies mention Suffolk County and New York State grant and reimbursement programs for I/A systems. Those figures differ between companies (for example, one cites Suffolk reimbursements up to $30,000, another cites combined grants up to $45,000, another cites state, county and town figures separately). They are program figures, not prices charged by the companies, and they are not reconciled between companies here. Ask the company which program you may qualify for and what it actually covers.
What drives a septic quote
- System type: a conventional septic tank and leaching structure, or an I/A nitrogen-reducing OWTS, which Suffolk now requires for new single-family homes and expansions.
- Size and condition: tank size, system age, whether the system has failed, and what an inspection finds.
- Permits: SCDHS permits and fees, which vary with the job.
- Access: how easy it is to reach and locate the tank, cesspool and leaching field.
- Scope: pumping only, repair, replacement, or a full new installation; pumping, inspection and installation are different jobs with different prices.
- Who does the work: the company's own crew or subcontractors, and whether engineering is included.
- Timing: routine service versus emergency service, which companies price differently.
What a written quote should itemize
- Exact scope: pumping, inspection, repair or replacement, and which parts of the system are included.
- How the price is calculated: by job, by system size, or as a flat scope price, and what would change it.
- Permits: which SCDHS permits are needed, who obtains them, and whether permit fees are included.
- System type: conventional or I/A, and what the I/A permit process involves.
- Who does the work: the company's own crew or subcontractors.
- Total price and what would change it: extra work found during pumping or inspection, added parts, or added excavation.
Ask every company the same questions and compare itemized quotes, not headline figures. The quote-questions checklist on the Get quotes page is built for exactly that comparison.
